Kelvin Sholar Presents XO (Jazz Meets Electronics) At A-Trane International Jazz Club
Berlin–(Kasmavtsu Music)– Kelvin Sholar presents XO, a Jazz meets electronics program, at the international Jazz club A-Trane in Berlin on July 16-17, Sept 25 and Nov 16 2014.
Kelvin Sholar is a Black American pianist, composer and band leader from Detroit. Sholar has recently been dubbed a “modern-day Leonardo Da Vinci” (Deutschland Radio Kultur/ Ilke Butzmann-Lorenzon) because of his noted ability to not only output high quality content in several different musical genres, but also his creative exploration of new music technology (endorsing several instruments) and mathematics.

XO is a Jazz meets electronics series where the principles of Jazz and electronic music are maintained: improvisation, blues harmonies, swing rhythms, authentic classic electronic themes and soundscapes etc… On July 16-17 XO will present “The Art Of Detroit Techno”. In line with this program, the music of several Detroit Techno composers will be explored, including 1). A Number Of Names’ “Sharevari”, 2). Kevin Saundersons’ “Rock to the beat”, “Big Fun”, “Good Life”, 3). Jeff Mills’ Solid Sleep, Wrath Of The Punisher, Condor To Mallorca, 4). Robert Hood’s Museum, Station Rider E, Self Powered and 5). Juan Atkins’ Game One, Wanna Be There, Technicolor, No Ufos, Starlight.
The featured artists are assembled from diverse corners of Jazz and electronic universes. JC Dook plays Guitar, Charles Sammons Bass, and David “Fingerz” Haynes plays Drums. On the vocals will be Kelvin Sholar, Andy Roda and Mz. Moni; they will be featured on Sharevari, Rock to the beat, Big Fun, Good Life, Wanna Be There, Technicolor, No Ufos- compositions by A Number Of Names, Kevin Saunderson and Juan Atkins respectively.
The dates on Sept. 26 and Nov. 16 will feature electronic artists that experiment with Jazz improvisations. “We have been talking with our friends like the Kyodai Brothers, Riccardo Villalobos, Robert Glasper and Jerome Sydenham about the series and there is a lot of possibilities working out with pleasant surprises”.

If this is anything like Sholar’s other music, this is something not to be missed! Sholar’s live set was called “what’s happening now in Detroit!” (Laurent Garnier) and “never before has Jazz been more present in Techno” (Jazzthetik/ Wolf Kampmann).
