Album Release Concert
Feat: Matt Adomeit-Mathias Ruppnig-Daniel Stawinsky

The album Rivermind, recorded in Berlin in 2025, is the sixth release by the talented guitarist Hugo Fernández. It features seven new compositions performed by a Berlin-based quartet that creatively blends jazz with pop and folk influences. His earlier album, Cosmogram (2015, Origin Records), featuring Antonio Sánchez on drums, was selected by DownBeat magazine as one of the best albums of the year.
Hugo Fernandez teams up with German pianist Daniel Stawinski who is immersed in diverse musical traditions such as Balkan folklore, Persian classical music, European classical music and Cuban music. American bassist Matt Adomeit, was raised on an eclectic diet of jazz, baroque and classical music. Mathias Ruppnig, from Austria, is an outstanding drummer who can play everything from conventional jazz to adventurous modern jazz.

Hugo Fernández is a Mexican jazz guitarist who has settled in Berlin since 6 years, after more than a decade in Madrid. His musical quest has led him to build his own universe, where the rich legacy of jazz coexists with the energy of other music such as pop-rock, world folklore and classical. At the age of 23, he traveled to Boston to study at Berklee College of Music. In 2003 he moved to New Orleans to study for a master’s degree in jazz studies.

From 2005 to 2015 he lived in Paris and worked in France as well as in neighbouring countries, touring extensively with the Yilian Cañizares quintet.
Back in Berlin since 2015, he founded the Kammerjazz Kollektiv and the Masnavi Duo, two ground-breaking projects exploring new musical territories between modern jazz and classical European and Persian music traditions. He is also the musical director of the Cuban Heartbeat Ensemble. a vibrant Latin jazz sextet performing regularly at Berlin’s Zigzag jazz club.
